Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 8, 2026

Effective date: October 2, 2026  ·  Dakota Labs LLC  ·  iOS & Android app

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy describes how Dakota Labs LLC ("Dakota Labs," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and handles information when you use Beau, our mobile application for tracking and supporting your dog's day-to-day care. Beau keeps your dogs' care records on your device and in your Beau account so they stay in step across your devices and with the family members you share them with. Its care tools (Library search, the Symptom Triage Wizard, the Weight Trend Explainer, the daily brief and Find-a-Vet) are fixed, rule-based features that run over your own records and a curated, vet-reviewed dog-care knowledge base.

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data to train machine-learning models. We do not store the text of your Library searches. We do not share your data with advertisers. We do not track you across other apps or websites.

2. What we collect and why

The list below is the complete set of data Beau collects. Each item is explained with what it is, how it is collected, and why we need it.

Email address

Collected when you sign in with Sign in with Apple or, on Android (not yet released), Google Sign-In. Apple may give us a private relay address instead of your real email; that is your choice, and we receive only what Apple passes us. Used to identify your account and to reply when you contact us. Never used for marketing.

Name (optional)

Collected only if you share it through Sign in with Apple's name field on first sign-in. You may withhold it. Used to greet you in the app and to show who is who to the members of a family you share.

Dog profiles

What you enter for each dog: name, breed, birthday, sex, weight and height, coat, microchip number, spay/neuter status, activity level, home environment (other pets, children), and the primary vet clinic you pick (its name, address, phone number and map location). Stored on your device and on Beau's servers under your account. A dog's photo stays on your device, where the app and its widgets show it; it is not uploaded.

Care logs

Walks, meals, potty breaks, sleep, training, weights, heights, vet visits and milestones you log, with their times, durations and any notes you add. Stored on your device and on Beau's servers so every device and every family member sees the same history.

Health records and attachments

Vaccinations, vet visits and other health records you enter (name, date, due date, clinic, veterinarian, notes), and the medications you track with the doses you log. Stored on Beau's servers under your account. If you attach a photo (JPEG, PNG or HEIC) or a PDF to a health record, the app uploads the file directly to our file storage (Cloudflare R2, see section 5) through a short-lived private link, and it is downloaded the same way. Beau Plus features such as the vet-ready PDF report are built on our servers from these records.

Symptom Triage answers

The answers you choose in the Symptom Triage Wizard (the symptom category, any additional symptoms, severity and duration) and your dog's age and weight. They are evaluated on Beau's servers. The result is saved to your dog's symptom history (category, symptoms, severity, duration and the recommended vet-visit level), which you and your family members can see in the app. A safety log entry recording the urgency check's verdict and a summary of the answers is also kept, encrypted; it is anonymized when you delete your account.

Library searches

The text you type into Library search is sent to Beau's servers to find matching articles. We do not store your search text or a search history on our servers.

Family sharing

If you create or join a family, we store the family's name, its members and their roles (owner, member, sitter). Invitations are made by code or by email. An email invitation stores the invitee's email address with the invite, and the invitation email is sent through our email provider (Resend, see section 5). The dogs, logs and records in a family are visible to its members.

Subscription records (Beau Plus)

If you subscribe to Beau Plus, the purchase is processed by Apple (StoreKit 2 on iOS) or Google (Google Play Billing on Android). Our servers validate the purchase and store only what is needed to unlock Plus: the product, the store's transaction identifier, the price and currency, the purchase and expiry dates, and whether Plus is active for your family. For features with a free-tier limit we also keep a count of how many times your family has used them. We never see your payment card details.

Problem reports

If you report a problem with content in the app, we store the category you choose, a reference to the content you reported, your optional note (up to 140 characters, encrypted) and a one-way hash of your IP address, used only to limit abuse of the report form.

Location (Find-a-Vet)

If you allow location access, Find-a-Vet uses your device's location to search for nearby veterinary clinics with Apple Maps (on Android, Google's map services). The search goes to Apple or Google, not to Dakota Labs, and your location is not stored by us or linked to your account.

Crash and diagnostic data

Beau contains no crash-reporting, analytics or advertising SDK. If you choose to share analytics with app developers in your device's settings, Apple or Google may pass us crash reports under their own terms.

3. Where your data is stored

On your device. Dog profiles, care logs and app preferences are stored locally (Apple's SwiftData on iOS), with a copy of today's summary shared with Beau's widgets. Your sign-in tokens are kept in the iOS Keychain. Reminders you set (feeding, potty breaks, medications) are scheduled as local notifications on your device; we send no push notifications.

On Beau's servers. Dog profiles, care logs, health records, medications, symptom history, family data and subscription state are stored on Beau's servers, hosted on Railway (see section 5), under your account. Your sign-in account (email, name, Apple or Google identifier) and purchase records are held by the Dakota Labs account service, on the same hosting. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS), and the databases are encrypted at rest by Railway. A small number of especially sensitive free-text fields, such as the note on a problem report and the safety log described above, are additionally encrypted at the column level.

In file storage. Health-record attachments are stored in Cloudflare R2.

Beau does not use iCloud or CloudKit; nothing is stored in your iCloud account.

4. How Beau's care tools work

Beau's care tools are a small, fixed set of rule-based features. Each has a fixed scope, runs over your own records and a curated, vet-reviewed knowledge base, and returns a structured result that the app displays. The same information is in the app under Settings → How Beau Works.

  • Library search: full-text search over our curated dog-care knowledge base, returning the most relevant articles with their veterinary sources. Your search text is processed on our servers and is not stored.
  • Symptom Triage Wizard: a structured decision guide that suggests an urgency level and next steps from the symptom answers you select and your dog's age and weight. Evaluated on our servers; the result is saved to your dog's symptom history (section 2).
  • Weight Trend Explainer: a plain-language explanation of your dog's recent weight trend, computed on our servers from the weights you have logged.
  • Daily brief and health insights: summaries computed on our servers from what you have logged.
  • Find-a-Vet: searches Apple Maps (Google's map services on Android) for nearby clinics and filters the results on your device.

For all care tools:

  • Inputs are not used to train any machine-learning models.
  • Inputs are processed on Beau’s servers; only Find-a-Vet’s map search goes to Apple or Google.
  • Each result that relates to your dog's health carries an in-app "not medical advice" footer.

5. Third-party services

Railway. Hosts Beau's servers, the Dakota Labs account service and their databases. Data on Railway is encrypted at rest. Railway does not access your data for its own purposes. Railway's privacy policy: railway.com/legal/privacy.

Cloudflare (R2). Stores the photos and PDFs you attach to health records. Cloudflare's privacy policy: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

Resend. Sends the email when you invite someone to your family by email; it receives the invitee's email address and the invitation. Resend's privacy policy: resend.com/legal/privacy-policy.

Apple (Sign in with Apple, StoreKit 2, Apple Maps). On iOS, Apple authenticates you, processes Beau Plus purchases, and answers Find-a-Vet's map searches. Apple's privacy policy governs what Apple sees. We never receive your payment card details.

Google (Sign-In, Play Billing, Maps). On Android (not yet released), Google authenticates you through Credential Manager, processes Beau Plus purchases through Google Play Billing, and answers Find-a-Vet's map searches. Google's privacy policy governs what Google sees. We never receive your payment card details.

6. What we don't do

  • We do not sell your data.
  • We do not use your data, including your searches and triage answers, to train machine-learning models.
  • We do not share your data with advertisers.
  • We do not track you across other apps or websites.
  • We do not store the text of your Library searches.
  • We do not store your payment details (Apple and Google handle billing).
  • We do not run advertising, analytics or crash-reporting SDKs in the app.

7. Account deletion

You can delete your account directly inside the app: open Settings, scroll to Account, tap Delete Account and type DELETE to confirm. Deletion is permanent and removes:

  • Your dog profiles
  • All care logs (walks, meals, sleep, training, weights, heights, milestones, etc.)
  • All health records, medications and doses, and symptom history
  • Your subscription state record (the underlying Apple or Google subscription is managed in your Apple ID or Google account; you can cancel it there)
  • Your family memberships; a family only you belonged to is deleted with its invites (a family you share stays with its other members, and if you owned it, ownership passes to another member)
  • Your account identifier and any associated email and name

Records of Beau Plus purchases are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires, with the link to your account removed. Safety log entries are anonymized rather than deleted: we keep only the verdict, the matched keywords, the action taken, the triage engine version and the time, none of which identifies you or your dog. An invitation someone sent to your email address that you never accepted keeps that address until it expires or the sender withdraws it. The photos and PDFs attached to the health records that are deleted with your account are removed from file storage at the same time. Backups containing deleted data are rotated out within 90 days. Deleting the app removes the data stored on your device.

If for any reason you cannot delete in-app, email [email protected] from the address on your account and we will process the request within 30 days. Deleting your account does not cancel a Beau Plus subscription; cancel it with Apple or Google. Our account deletion page walks through both ways to delete, what happens to a family you share, and what we keep.

8. Children's privacy

Beau is not directed at children under 13 and is not designed to collect data about children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 where GDPR-K applies). If we learn that we have collected such information, we will delete it. If you believe a child has provided personal information through Beau, please contact us at [email protected].

9. Regional rights

European Union / United Kingdom (GDPR). If you are in the EU or UK, you have the right to access, correct, delete, port, and restrict the processing of your personal data, and to object to processing. To exercise these rights, contact [email protected]. We are the data controller for the data described in this policy. Our lawful bases for processing are: contract (operating the app for you), legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention and the safety log), and consent (optional features like name personalization and location for Find-a-Vet).

California (CCPA / CPRA). California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, to delete that information, to correct it, and to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law. You may exercise your rights by emailing [email protected].

Other jurisdictions. We honor equivalent rights wherever applicable law grants them. Contact us via the email above.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Beau evolves. When we make a material change (for example, adding a new third-party service or a new care tool) we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, notify you in-app before the change takes effect. Continued use of Beau after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
